What Are the Benefits of CEREC® One-Day Restorations?

Completed in-house from start to finish, CEREC® one-day restorations offer a number of distinct advantages over traditional tooth restorations. Some key benefits are highlighted below.

Ultimately, CEREC® one-day tooth restorations can provide an unprecedented level of quality and customization in a significantly reduced amount of time.

Who Is a Candidate for CEREC® Restorations?

CEREC® restorations can be a versatile option suited to a wide range of patients. Anyone needing a crown to repair a cracked, decayed, or weakened tooth is a common candidate, as are those requiring inlays and onlays. Since CEREC® uses all-ceramic materials, it may be particularly well-suited for patients who prefer metal-free dentistry or have sensitivities to certain metals. Good candidates should have enough remaining healthy tooth structure to support the restoration and healthy gum tissue surrounding the treatment area. Patients with active gum disease or significant bite issues may need those conditions addressed first. A straightforward exam and digital scan are typically all that’s needed to determine whether the CEREC® approach is the right fit.

The Biological Identical Dentistry Approach

Dr. Mabry and Dr. Murphy utilize the minimally invasive approach known as biological identical dentistry whenever possible. This conservative method involves mimicking the patient’s existing crown, bridge, or other restoration by crafting an identical replacement with the CEREC® system. Biologically identical dentistry can be extremely beneficial for patients who need their tooth’s structural integrity improved, since the approach is designed to create the exact same size and shape of the previous tooth or tooth replacement. This allows patients to maintain the same dental anatomy and minimize the need to replace appliances like night guards or Invisalign® trays that have been specially molded to their teeth. Our dentists can discuss this option with you during your appointment to determine if it is an appropriate technique for your CEREC® restorations.

What Does the Procedure for CEREC® One-Day Restorations Entail?

To begin your procedure, our doctors will scan your teeth using CEREC® Omnicam technology. Data from the scan will then be transferred to a computer software system where they can access a 3D image of your teeth and customize your restoration from the convenience of a chairside computer screen. Once the design for the restoration is complete, it is wirelessly downloaded to our in-office milling machine and then constructed using non-metallic ceramic materials. Following its construction, our cosmetic dentist will delicately secure your newly-customized restoration to your tooth and/or teeth, effectively completing the process.

The entire procedure can typically be performed in as little as one day, depending on the extent of your restoration needs. As an added benefit, you can generally expect to be able to return to your normal activities later that same day.

How Long Do CEREC® Restoration Results Last?

CEREC® restorations are crafted from high-strength dental ceramic that is designed to be both durable and natural-looking. With proper care, most CEREC® crowns, inlays, and onlays can last 10 to 15 years or longer—a lifespan comparable to traditionally fabricated restorations. Longevity typically depends on several factors, including the location of the tooth, bite forces, oral hygiene habits, and whether patients engage in habits like teeth grinding or chewing hard objects. Routine dental visits allow our team to monitor the restoration for wear or any changes in fit. Patients who brush and floss consistently and attend regular check-ups tend to get the most years out of their CEREC® restorations.

How Much Do CEREC® Restorations Cost?

The cost of a CEREC® restoration can vary depending on several factors, so it’s best to receive a personalized estimate during your consultation. Whether it’s a crown, inlay, onlay, or bridge being placed is one of the primary cost considerations, as is the location of the tooth being treated. The complexity of the case and the overall condition of the surrounding teeth and gums can also influence pricing.

At North Scottsdale Dental Studio, we offer financing options for qualified applicants to help patients receive the dental care they need.
