Scottsdale Dentist Shares Ways to Naturally Achieve White Teeth

Home

Dr. Todd Mabry believes there are many natural methods of brightening your smile other than cosmetic procedures.

Dr. Todd Mabry details methods for whitening teeth without professional dental care. He stresses the importance of sound dental hygiene and preventative dental care that can lend themselves to a brighter smile.

Scottsdale, AZ – Dr. Todd Mabry and Dr. Colleen Murphy head the North Scottsdale Dental Studio in Arizona where they offer a plethora of dental services. Included in their catalog is teeth whitening treatment that can correct stains and discoloration within their patients’ teeth. However, while both of the extensively trained cosmetic and restorative dentists in Scottsdale say they are proud to offer teeth whitening, they want their community to know there are methods beyond the dentist office that can lead to brighter and whiter teeth.

Tips for Brightening and Whitening Teeth Naturally at Home

Dr. Mabry says a key factor in maintaining better oral hygiene and improving the overall color of teeth is simple practices at home that can lead to a brighter smile. Keeping discoloration and stains away can be promoted by simple techniques such as regular teeth brushing, flossing, and using mouthwash. These methods can be great at removing any extra plaque or bacteria buildup in one’s mouth that can lead to problems down the road, he says.

Additionally, Dr. Mabry highlights that keeping an eye on one’s diet can be key. Food and drinks that might stain one’s teeth like red sauce, berries, coffee, and wine can often lead to discoloration. Avoiding these foods and drinks or limiting the consumption of these products can reduce the likelihood of an individual staining their teeth. Conversely, Dr. Mabry points out there are foods that may promote better hygiene and cleaner, brighter teeth. Eating fruits and vegetables can often have a positive effect on one’s smile and the overall health of the mouth by naturally scrubbing bacteria and plaque off of teeth.

Another important factor is avoiding smoking and vaping, he says. Dr. Mabry emphasizes that while many people know the dangers of smoking and vaping on overall health, many do not consider the ramifications these recreational activities can have on their oral hygiene and health. An abundance of smoking and vaping can lead to a wide variety of problems for one’s smile including stains and discoloration, he says.

Dr. Mabry recommends being cautious about teeth whitening trends that are not approved by the American Dental Association (ADA). These fads can include using certain oils on your teeth to pull off stains and using charcoal toothpaste in hopes of realizing brighter teeth. However, Dr. Mabry notes that using oil pulling and switching to charcoal toothpaste has not been proven as an effective way to improve oral health, according to the ADA.

Teeth Whitening Services at North Scottsdale Dental Studio

In general, Dr. Mabry and Dr. Murphy stress the importance of practicing good oral hygiene by utilizing the methods they provided above. However, they also are aware that some may elect to seek professional teeth whitening services either way. At North Scottsdale Dental Studio, they offer two teeth whitening options available for patients: in-office and at-home treatments.

The in-office option for teeth whitening utilizes Venus White® Max. This treatment can dissolve and lift stains that may have built up on one’s teeth. Using the revolutionary whitening gel that consists of hydrogen peroxide gel and potassium nitrate, Venus White® Max creates optimal results when patients receive a series of three to four treatments, explains Dr. Mabry. The other option is a take-home teeth whitening set that includes multiple trays for patients to use at their own leisure. The whitening trays are designed to lift stains and leave teeth whiter by using the treatment for certain points of time every day.
